If youre keen to modify the look of your nose, youll be joining a huge list of Brits whove decided to have rinoplasty.

Understanding Rhinoplasty Nose reshaping surgery is the process commonly known as rhinoplasty or having a nose job includes surgery to restructure the nose. According to the latest statistics from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (www.baaps.org.uk), demand for the procedure has climbed up by 34 per cent in one year, making it the fifth most admired procedure for women in the UK and the most admired amongst men.

Several portions of nose jobs can be altered to change its appearance, including the tip, bridge (which runs between the eyes to the tip) and nostrils. Rhinoplasty can be carried out either to increase or reduce the size of your nose called augmentation and reduction rhinoplasty respectively. When it is carried out particularly to reshape the tip of the nose, it is known as tip- reshaping or tip-plasty. As reported by specialsist plastic surgeon Lucian Ion, practicing in the West London Clinic (www.westlondonclinic.co.uk): The mark of a balanced nose is a tip thats in proportion. Leading London cosmetic surgeon Alex Karidis declares: Reduction is still the most popular category of rhinoplasty. Luckily, the days of the button nose are gone and patients are now after a more natural look.

How is it useful to you? Mr Kalpesh Patel ear, nose and throat surgeon points out that majority of the people select rhinoplasty to improve the shape of the nose to look good and assist those who experienced that the shape or size of their nose caused them awkwardness and social uneasiness. Rhinoplasty can also rectify a birth defect or injury as well as alleviate breathing problems. Mr Ion points out that skin turns thin with the growing age. Similarly, the fat around the nose looses resulting in the sagging of the nose. Hence, Rhinoplasty is more popular for people of old age bracket.

The rhinoplasty process

Your surgeon will do cuts inside your nostrils to get to the bone and cartilage. The shape of your nose will then be made by slightly removing and re-shaping the bone and cartilage. The most important process is a closed operation, done from inside the nose and making no visible scars. The surgeon go into the nose through cuts inside the nostrils and reshapes the bone or cartilage to give the preferred shape. Open rhinoplasty surgery allows the surgeon the least restricted entry to the cartilage and bone of the nose but is also more likely to cause scarring. The incision across the columella makes it achievable for the doctor to pick the skin off the tip of the nose and shape the cartilage accurately. When recovered, the incision produces a very small, almost unnoticeable scar on the underside of the nose.

Rhinoplasty cost It costs you anything between 3,000 to 4,000.

Recovery time

When you wake up from surgery, you may get facial bruises and swelling thatll give you the look of having been in a fight. This will last for around two weeks. Your reshaped nose will be held in place with a splint or plaster cast for about a week. A little bleeding is normal after a rhinoplasty and you may experience a stuffy feeling nose for a few weeks which will disappear after 6-12 months. Keep away from ardous activities, have sunbathe to avoid bleeding.

Perils related to rhinoplasty There are several hazards and difficulties specific to rhinoplasty. They are: rhinitis also called running nose, infection, reaction to anesthetic and blockage of nose by swelling resulting in to breathing difficulties. Taking out too much cartilage or bone can produce an unnatural appearance and isnt desirable because it may hinder breathing. However, people usually get relief from breathing problems if proper care is being taken.

How long does it persist? Unlike other cosmetic surgery procedures (many of them need to be redone later), you shouldnt need to repeat a nose job unless youre unhappy with the outcome. Mr. Patel declares that in about 10 per cent of rhinoplasty cases theres a poor aesthetic result and five per cent of patients will want to undergo the surgery again. The rhinoplasty surgery results will not be instantly visible. Some residual swelling will persist for six months to a year after the rhinoplasty procedure. The final results will not be apparent until this swelling has completely lessen.
