Life Between Lives

Michael Newton, PhD was a traditional psychologist at the beginning of his career.  However, he became open to new approaches after several of his hypnotized clients described glimpses of what they considered spiritual realms.  Dr. Newton systematically explored client reports about this possibility.

Over time, his work mapped out what subjects experienced before human birth.  His Life Between Lives approach used four-hour long and very deep hypnotic regressions to access the time before coming to earth.  Dr. Newton conducted this pioneering work for over twenty-five years before sharing his findings with the world.  He facilitated sessions with over 7,000 people during his thirty-five-year career.  These clients came from around the world.  However, regardless of their geographical location, there was a high degree of consistency about specific details.  His books Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls described these early findings.

I read each book four times.  I learned more from them about questions I’ve had since was young than any other book I’ve read.  For example, some people wonder whether there really is a caring and powerful Creator when mass deaths and large scale disasters occur. Based on his research, Michael Newton Ph.D. stated, “I have found that souls essentially volunteer in advance for bodies that will have sudden fatal illnesses, are to be killed by someone, or come to an abrupt end of life with many others from a catastrophic event.  Souls who become involved in these tragedies are not caught in the wrong place at the wrong time with a capricious God looking the other way.  Every soul has a motive for the events in which it chooses to participate.”

Here’s another example.  During a LBL session, one woman recalled a past life on earth and the time after that in ‘the really real place’.  During the earthly life, she was plagued by one disappointment after another.  Her life seemed to be a series of failures, broken dreams, sadness, and loneliness.  However, when she passed on, she found that these hardships had prepared her for a particularly demanding role on the other side: helping recently arrived souls who had been abused to death as babies.  Her earthly struggles had strengthened her spirit and deepened her compassion sufficiently to serve in that demanding way.  So was her earthly suffering worth it?

This information is so delicious, and makes so much sense, that I must share on more.   It may help you realize how brief a human incarnation is.  During group interactions with soul-mates on ‘the other side’, people can enjoy a variety of physical experiences including playing cards.  Imagine that a soul is playing a game of poker and, as one hand ends, said: ‘Don’t deal me in this hand; I’m leaving for an earthly experience.’  Many years in earth time pass as she goes through developmental stages of ninety years on earth: human birth, childhood, puberty, young adulthood, middle age, old age, and eventually physical death.

But all that seems like just a few minutes in spirit time.  The soul returns and her soulmates are just finishing the hand they started when she left.  The newly arrived person says: “OK, I’m back.  Deal me in.” No one thinks much about it since they understand that an earthly incarnation is just a very brief foray into one of the infinite facets of the field of all possibilities.

Dr. Newton stated, “I was a skeptic before about the whole process of past life regression and working with life between lives.  What convinced me it was real was the consistency of my patients’ reports as they were telling me everything that had happened to them in their past life reports.  It didn’t matter whether someone came to me who was deeply religious or an atheist, or any philosophical persuasion in between.  Once I had them in deep hypnosis, they all told me the same thing about the spirit world and about their life between lives.”

Ann Clark, PhD, RN is the author of Healing from Great Loss, and co-author of Wisdom of Souls and Llewellyn’s Little Book of Life between Lives.  A certified Life Between Lives facilitator, Dr. Clark is the former Director of Research for the Newton Institute.  She stated: “To date, approximately 65,000 LBL sessions have been conducted worldwide in 48 countries and in 21 different languages.  Findings about otherworldly realms have remained consistent with clients from different cultures, ethnicities, and religions.  During sessions, individuals experience themselves as immortal souls.  Further, they meet guides, departed loved ones, and wise beings who offer advice on soul lessons and life purpose.”

Interestingly, said Clark, clients report transformative outcomes that show striking similarities to those after NDEs.

I will close with a description of Creator from a female client of Newton’s.  He considered her to one of the most evolved beings he had ever interviewed during a Life Between Lives session. To slightly paraphrase, she described Oneness, the Presence as: ‘Massive but soft. Powerful yet gentle. There is a breath, a whisper of sound that is so pure. The sound creates all, including light and energy. The sound holds this structure and makes it move, shifting and undulating, creating everything. It is a reverberating bell, then a high-pitched pure humming like an echo of a mother full of love singing to her child.’
