The evidence-based information and holistic resources outlined in these articles will help you to:

  • realize your true nature as an eternal being of consciousness / life-force / energy
  • receive guidance and assistance from highly evolved energies and Source / The Light
  • heal old wounds, release lower energies, and update erroneous teachings

  • help others by sharing your greatest gifts
  • make our world a better place

As enough people do this, widespread personal and planetary change will naturally unfold.

All Lives Matter

More Americans now realize the extent of racial prejudice and injustice, and are taking action.  In the process, it can look like chaos.  Many involved are peaceful protestors, but some are taking advantage of a rightful cause to loot and destroy.  The former is laudable while the latter isn’t acceptable.

The roots of the problem are complex.  Likewise, solutions are difficult to consider in a fair and practical way.  Mob mentality will elicit a backlash, not a thoughtful moving forward.  Those who loot and destroy only strengthen false beliefs that most people of a certain color are bad.

What is the best way forward?  For example, are reparations a good idea and will they make a lasting difference?  If so, what is the threshold for receiving them?  Skin color?  DNA profile?  There’s such a wide spectrum of both in most people.

What is reasonable about statues being taken down?  Past leaders weren’t perfect, but who is?  Where do we draw the line between preserving our history and removing reminders of mistreatment based on race?

I hesitate to write about this because some people on both sides of the issue are so reactive about this topic right now.  People tend to form polarities and vigorously, even violently, defend their positions.  For example, consider the title of this article.  Black lives AND all lives matter.

I hope to further reasonable discussion and unitive solutions.  I pray that my words will help others look at this with more tolerance and hope.  I don’t pretend to have all the answers or solutions.  I have five, but first some background so you know where I’m coming from.

                                         *       *       *       *     *       *      *

I was blessed to grow up in a neighborhood that was half “white” and half “black.”  (I used quotation marks around those terms because no one is really all white or all black.  People who are differing shades of tan, light brown, medium brown, and dark brown are called black by some people.)

At a recent high school reunion, my friend Warren – a tall African American – reminded me that we held hands while walking to kindergarten together because we were scared.  On other days, I walked with two or three African American girls and we talked and laughed all the way.  I’ve been to African American funerals and been involved in weddings.  (I was easy to spot in the line of best men of brothers who big afros.)

A dear friend in grade school was from Korea.  Our Lutheran minister and his family were Chinese.  During the last 30 years, I have become friends with three Native Americans who are spiritual wisdom teachers.  In short, I grew up appreciating the richness and differences among different people.

And, as a result, I know that racism is more common than most realize.  Friends in mixed race marriages experience negativity that ranges from stares to rude comments or worse.  One of my godsons, a 6 ½ foot tall, 270 pound African American, is routinely pulled over in his neighborhood by the police.  He is one of the most gentle, intelligent, loving, and creative people I know.  The police ask, ‘What are doing in this (nice and largely white) neighborhood?’  He answers, “Going to my mom’s house just down the street.’  She is a physician with more degrees than me and we’ve been dear friends since junior high school.

Many years ago, she and I looked at all the racial strife – we were fifteen years old when Dr. Martin Luther King was murdered – and came up with a great plan.  What if many people intermarried for just a few generations?  After that, most people would be a beautiful cocoa brown and skin color would be an afterthought.  It’s slowly happening.  Notice the number of attractive biracial people with awesome looking eyes, facial structure, and other great features.

“Susan”, a long time patient of mine and 78 year-old retired RN, isn’t all white but clearly isn’t a single race.  We were talking about racial injustice struggles in our nation and she said, “My grandmother was pure blood Cherokee.  My father was part black and white.  My mother was part white and part Native American.  What does that make me?  The blacks don’t want me, the whites won’t have me, and the Indians say ‘she doesn’t look like us.’”

Her comments reminded me of all the minor and major suffering caused by trivial differences in the amount and position of a pigment in the skin.  How did such a relatively unimportant detail become such a big deal to so many people?

As we talked further, Susan said: “If you hear a baby crying in the room next door, you don’t hesitate to see if he or she is OK – you run over there to help the little one.  And you certainty don’t think about whether it is a black, brown, red, yellow, or white-skinned baby before you move.  People need to learn to give others a chance – no matter what their outward differences – instead of automatically reacting based on their skin color.

Similarly, my friend Bernie Siegel MD was a surgeon who has written eloquently about the uninformed stance of judging others by their skin color.  ‘After I cut through the initial layer of skin’ he has said, ‘all the rest looks the same.’

It’s 2020, for God’s sake.  Might we see more clearly what is truly important and live in peace?
                                        *       *       *       *     *       *      *

In my 67 years on this planet, I’ve learned there are usually a few bad apples in every bushel.  I’ve met many wonderful people, and just a few imbalanced ones, from every race.  My friends and extended family are a beautiful assortment of color, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, age, gender, ethnicity, hair style, and other minor differences.  I’m grateful to have learned what is really important at a young age and enjoy this diversity.

My five solutions . . .

  1. Look into people’s eyes, not just at their skin

  2. Give others a fair chance instead of making snap judgments based on how they look or what cause they support.

  3. Expand your world: take part in a peaceful protest, attend church services with people of different skin colors and beliefs, make new friends with those of different races, etc.

  4. Realize that skin color is not an accurate indicator of whether a person is good, loving, and peaceful.

  5. Treat others the way you would want to be treated: with love, respect, and caring.

    The solutions to this one are really quite simple.  Follow The Golden Rule.  Great religious and philosophical teachers throughout time have shared the wisdom and benefits of loving our neighbors, ourselves, and Creator.
